Indonesia
Islands, Incense & Infinite Adventure
Where Every Island Is a New Story
Made up of over 17,000 islands, Indonesia is like several countries rolled into one. From the spiritual calm of Bali to the wild jungles of Borneo and the cultural richness of Java, this Southeast Asian paradise invites you to explore deep, dream big, and slow down. One day you’re snorkelling with manta rays off Nusa Penida, the next you're sipping coffee on a mountaintop watching the sun rise over volcanic peaks.
Whether you're diving in crystal-clear waters, hiking through rainforests to hidden waterfalls, or wandering temple complexes older than many nations, Indonesia fills your senses with colour, rhythm, and the scent of clove cigarettes and frangipani. And the people? Warm, proud, and full of smiles that stretch as wide as the beaches.
Visa Requirements
UK passport holders can enter Indonesia visa-free for up to 30 days if travelling for tourism. No extension is allowed, so if you plan to stay longer, apply for a Visa on Arrival (VOA) or e-Visa, which can be extended once for another 30 days. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date, with proof of onward travel.
Key Airports
- Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Jakarta (CGK) – The main hub for Java and international connections.
- Ngurah Rai International Airport, Bali (DPS) – Your gateway to paradise, perfect for beach holidays, wellness retreats and island hopping.
- Juanda International Airport, Surabaya (SUB) – Ideal for accessing East Java’s volcanoes and cultural cities.
Spoken Languages
Bahasa Indonesia is the official language, but each island has its own regional dialects. English is widely spoken in Bali, Jakarta and tourist hotspots, but less so in rural areas. Locals love it when you try a few Indonesian phrases!
Here are a few essentials:
- Halo! – Hello
- Terima kasih – Thank you
- Tolong – Thank you
- Berapa harganya? – How much is it?
- Enak sekali! – So delicious
Say it with a smile, and you’ll be met with warmth and hospitality.
Holidays to Indonesia
During the Summer
Indonesia has a tropical climate, so it’s warm year-round. Summer (May to September) is the dry season, with sunny days and lower humidity - ideal for beaches, hiking, and outdoor adventures.
During the Winter
Winter (November to March) is the wet season, with short, heavy downpours typically in the afternoons. It’s still warm (27–32°C), and travel is very doable - especially in areas like Bali and Lombok, where rain often clears up quickly.
Top Indonesian Hot Spots
Indonesia is a feast of experiences. Hike up Mount Bromo before dawn and watch the sun rise over a sea of clouds. Visit Ubud for rice terraces, spiritual healing, and traditional dance. Or head to Komodo National Park, where you can dive with sea turtles and spot real-life dragons. There’s a reason people come here for two weeks and stay for months.

Bali – The Island of the Gods
Bali blends wellness, surf culture, and Balinese spirituality into one irresistible island. Think jungle villas, waterfall hikes, yoga in rice paddies, and sunset cocktails on the beach.
Yogyakarta – Java’s Cultural Capital
A city of art, tradition, and temple treasures. Visit majestic Borobudur and Prambanan, explore local batik workshops, and sample spicy street food.
Komodo Islands – Jurassic Beauty
Sail between dramatic islands, dive in crystal waters, and come face to face with the legendary Komodo dragon. A raw, rugged adventure for nature lovers.
Gili Islands – Tiny, Tropical, Tranquil
No cars, no stress - just sandy streets, coral reefs, and barefoot beach bars. Gili T is lively, Gili Air is balanced, and Gili Meno is as chill as it gets.
Top Tips for Getting the Most Out of Your Holiday
- Use Scooters, But With Care - On many islands, scooters are the easiest (and most fun!) way to get around. Just wear a helmet, drive slow, and avoid busy roads if you're a beginner. It’s freedom on two wheels.
- Respect the Local Culture - Indonesia is culturally diverse and religiously devout. Dress modestly when visiting temples, remove shoes before entering homes, and always use your right hand to give and receive.
- Carry Cash in Rural Areas - While cards are accepted in cities and resorts, many small warungs (local cafés), markets and island shops only accept cash. Keep some small notes handy for snacks and transport.
- Don’t Just Do Bali – Explore Further - Bali is amazing, but Indonesia is so much more. Lombok, Flores, Sulawesi, and Sumatra each have their own unique landscapes, traditions and stories to share. Island-hop your way to unforgettable discoveries.
