New York

Skylines, Broadway & Bagels with Everything

The City That Never Sleeps, and Never Stops Surprising You

New York isn’t just a city, it’s a universe packed into five boroughs. You’ll find history on every corner, creativity in every café, and a buzz in the air that can only be described as… New York. Marvel at Manhattan’s skyline from the Top of the Rock, stroll through Central Park, eat pizza under the Brooklyn Bridge, or hop on the subway just to people-watch.

Each neighbourhood tells a story - from the street art of Bushwick to the elegance of the Upper East Side, the global flavours of Queens to the jazz clubs of Harlem. Whether you're here for the museums, the musicals, or the mouth-watering food scene, New York greets you with energy, style, and open arms.

Visa Requirements

UK passport holders must apply for an ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) under the Visa Waiver Program. This allows tourism visits of up to 90 days. Apply online before travel - approval is quick, and your passport must be valid for the entire stay.

Key Airports

  • John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) – The main international hub, located in Queens.

  • LaGuardia Airport (LGA) – Best for domestic flights, also in Queens.

  • Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) – Located in New Jersey, but just a short train ride from Manhattan.

Spoken Languages

English is the official language, but New York is a true melting pot, over 180 languages are spoken here! You’ll hear Spanish, Chinese, Russian, Arabic, and more. The pace is fast, but the people are friendly.

Useful phrases (and local lingo):

  • “I’ll take it to go.” – For takeaway food or drinks
  • “Can I get a regular coffee?” – In NYC, this means coffee with milk and sugar
  • “Uptown / Downtown” – Directions on the subway
  • “I’m walkin’ here!” – Classic (but don't shout it unless you're in a movie)
  • “The city” – Always means Manhattan, even if you're in Brooklyn!

Holidays to New York

During the Summer

From June to August, NYC is hot and humid, with temperatures around 25–35°C. Expect sunny days, evening thunderstorms, and lots of outdoor fun—rooftop bars, open-air concerts, and riverside strolls.

During the Winter

From December to February, it's chilly and festive. Expect 0–10°C, occasional snow, and magical Christmas decorations. Ice skating in Central Park or browsing the holiday markets? A total winter dream.

Top New York Hot Spots

Climb to the top of the Empire State Building for that iconic view, catch a Broadway show that’ll have you humming for days, and wander through Central Park, a green oasis in the heart of the urban jungle. There's something magical in every moment.

Manhattan – The Heartbeat of the City

See Times Square’s neon chaos, shop in SoHo, and visit the MET or MoMA. Manhattan has it all - skyscrapers, style, and cinematic sights at every turn.

Brooklyn – Creative, Cool & Community-Filled

Walk the Brooklyn Bridge, hang out in Williamsburg, explore Prospect Park, and grab a slice of New York’s best pizza. Brooklyn’s vibe is more laid-back, but never boring.

The Statue of Liberty & Ellis Island – Stories of Hope

Take a ferry to Lady Liberty, then explore Ellis Island’s moving immigration museum - a powerful and quintessentially American experience.

The High Line – Art, Architecture & Urban Escape

This elevated park built on old railway tracks winds above Manhattan’s West Side. Think gardens, public art, food stalls and killer views.

Top Tips for Getting the Most Out of Your Holiday

  1. Walk Fast, Talk Smart - New Yorkers move quickly - especially on the sidewalk. Keep to the right, don’t stop suddenly, and enjoy the rhythm of the city as you go.
  2. Ride the Subway Like a Local - It’s the cheapest, fastest way to get around. Get a MetroCard or use contactless payment. Uptown = north, Downtown = south. And yes, the trains really do run all night.
  3. Explore Beyond Manhattan - Queens is a foodie's paradise. The Bronx has Yankee Stadium and incredible culture. Staten Island has beaches and ferry views. NYC is so much more than Manhattan!
  4. Tipping is Essential - In restaurants, taxis, salons and bars, tipping is expected. 18–20% in restaurants is standard. Not tipping is considered very rude, be ready with those dollars!
