Kenya

Savannahs, Sunsets & the Spirit of Safari

Where Nature Roars and Cultures Shine

Kenya is where the wild things are—and where they live in harmony with one of the richest cultures on the continent. Think majestic elephants silhouetted against golden grasslands, Maasai warriors sharing stories by firelight, and pink flamingos painting entire lakes in motion.

Whether you’re tracking the Big Five on safari, hiking through the misty slopes of Mount Kenya, or unwinding on the shores of the Indian Ocean in Diani, Kenya delivers unforgettable contrasts. Adventure and authenticity go hand-in-hand here, and every traveller leaves with a deeper connection to the land, the wildlife, and its people.

Visa Requirements

As of 2024, UK citizens do not need a visa to enter Kenya for tourism. You’ll simply need to apply for a free electronic travel authorisation (eTA) online before travelling. Ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry.

Key Airports

  • Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi (NBO) – Kenya’s largest and busiest airport, ideal for safari access.

  • Moi International Airport, Mombasa (MBA) – Best for beach holidays and coastal escapes.

  • Eldoret International Airport (EDL) – Serves western Kenya and the Rift Valley region.

Spoken Languages

Kenya has two official languages: English and Swahili. English is widely spoken in cities and tourist areas, while Swahili connects you warmly with locals across the country.

Try these phrases:

  • Jambo! – Hello
  • Asante sana – Thank you very much
  • Karibu – Welcome
  • Hakuna matata – No worries
  • Sawa sawa – Okay / All good
  • Habari gani? – How are you?

Swahili is melodic and fun - use a few words and you’ll instantly win hearts.

Holidays to Kenya

During the Summer

Kenya is near the equator, so it doesn’t have traditional seasons. The dry season (June to October) is warm, sunny and perfect for safaris, with temperatures between 20–30°C depending on the region.

During the Winter

From December to February, it’s hot and dry, especially good for game viewing and beach holidays. Coastal areas can reach 32°C, while Nairobi and higher altitudes remain pleasantly warm around 25°C.

Top Kenya Hot Spots

Go on a bucket-list safari in the Maasai Mara, especially during the Great Migration. Trek through Hell’s Gate National Park, the inspiration behind The Lion King. Then relax on the pristine beaches of Diani, where white sands meet clear turquoise waters.

Maasai Mara – The Soul of Safari

Kenya’s most iconic game reserve, home to lions, leopards, elephants, and the spectacular wildebeest migration. Go at sunrise and watch the wild world wake up.

Nairobi – Urban Energy Meets Wild Encounters

Visit the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, feed giraffes at Giraffe Centre, then explore vibrant neighbourhoods, markets, and museums.

Diani Beach – Indian Ocean Paradise

Palm-fringed shores, crystal-clear waters, and luxurious resorts. Snorkel, kite surf, or simply do nothing - it’s a dreamy coastal escape.

Lake Nakuru – Flamingo Heaven

Famous for its pink flamingos and rhino sightings, this Rift Valley lake is a serene and stunning stop on your Kenyan journey.

Top Tips for Getting the Most Out of Your Holiday

  1. Wake Up Early – Wildlife Waits for No One - Game drives are best at sunrise and sunset when animals are most active. Early starts reward you with breathtaking moments and cooler temperatures.
  2. Learn the Art of Bartering - In markets and souvenir stalls, haggling is part of the experience. Do it with humour and respect, and you’ll walk away with treasures and smiles.
  3. Go Beyond the Safari Jeep - Try a walking safari, cultural village tour, or even a hot air balloon ride over the plains. Kenya has layers—don’t just skim the surface.
  4. Respect the Culture - Kenya is rich in traditions and diverse communities. Dress modestly outside tourist resorts, ask before taking photos, and greet locals with a smile and a “jambo!”
