Philippines
Islands of Smiles, Sunsets & Sea Adventures
Where Every Island Has a Secret and Every Beach Tells a Story
With over 7,600 islands, the Philippines is an archipelago built for wanderlust. Whether you’re diving into vibrant coral reefs, hiking through emerald rice terraces, or swinging in a hammock with mango shake in hand, this Southeast Asian paradise offers the perfect mix of relaxation, adventure and culture.
The Filipino spirit is as sunny as the weather. People here are known for their kindness, humour and hospitality. English is widely spoken, karaoke is practically a national sport, and every meal feels like a celebration. From the bustling charm of Manila to the laid-back bliss of Siargao, you’ll find beauty and joy at every turn.
Visa Requirements
UK passport holders can visit the Philippines visa-free for up to 30 days. To enter, you’ll need a passport valid for at least 6 months from your date of arrival and proof of onward or return travel. Need longer? Visas can be extended at immigration offices across the country.
Key Airports
- Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Manila (MNL) – The main international gateway and perfect for exploring Luzon and the capital region.
- Mactan-Cebu International Airport (CEB) – Convenient for the Visayas, including Cebu, Bohol, and surrounding islands.
- Clark International Airport (CRK) – Located north of Manila and a good alternative for travellers avoiding the capital’s hustle.
Spoken Languages
Filipino (based on Tagalog) and English are both official languages, and most locals speak excellent English. Still, a few local words go a long way and are warmly received.
Try these:
- Kamusta? – How are you?
- Salamat – Thank you
- Magkano ito? – How much is this?
- Masarap! – Delicious!
- Ingat! – Take care!
Filipinos are incredibly friendly - don’t be surprised if you’re invited to join a meal or a birthday party within minutes of meeting someone.
Holidays to the Philippines
During the Summer
The dry season (March to May) is summer in the Philippines, hot, sunny, and ideal for beach time. Expect temperatures between 28–35°C, especially in lowland and coastal areas. It’s peak island-hopping weather!
During the Winter
From December to February, the Philippines enjoys its cooler dry season - still warm at around 24–30°C, with less humidity and lush green landscapes. It’s the best time for exploring cities, hiking, and outdoor adventures.
Top Filipino Hot Spots
There’s no shortage of wow here. Snorkel with whale sharks in Donsol, chase waterfalls in Cebu, or explore UNESCO-listed rice terraces in Banaue. Take a boat tour around Palawan’s limestone cliffs, island-hop through El Nido, or learn to surf in Siargao. And always make time for a sunset, you’ll never forget them.
Palawan – The Last Frontier
Consistently ranked one of the most beautiful islands in the world, Palawan is paradise perfected. Think secret lagoons, dramatic cliffs and unreal aquamarine waters.
Boracay – Beach Bliss & Island Nights
With its famous White Beach, swaying palm trees and buzzing nightlife, Boracay blends tropical relaxation with a touch of party spirit. Recently refreshed, it’s cleaner, greener, and just as dreamy.
Bohol – Chocolate Hills & Tarsier Thrills
Explore surreal landscapes, meet the adorable (and tiny) tarsier, cruise down jungle rivers, and relax on Panglao’s sparkling beaches.
Banaue – Ancient Rice Terraces in the Clouds
Step back in time with a trek through hand-carved rice terraces that are over 2,000 years old. A must for culture lovers and mountain explorers.
Top Tips for Getting the Most Out of Your Holiday
- Travel by Tricycle (and Smile While You Do) - These quirky three-wheeled taxis are a fun, affordable way to explore local towns. Negotiate the fare before hopping in, and enjoy the breeze and banter.
- Pack Reef-Safe Sunscreen - Protect those coral reefs! Many of the Philippines’ best attractions are underwater, and reef-friendly sunscreen helps preserve this precious marine life.
- Eat Like a Local, Especially at a Carinderia - Skip the tourist menus and head to a carinderia - a local eatery where you can sample homemade Filipino dishes like adobo, sinigang, or lechon. Tasty, affordable, and authentic.
- Prepare for Island Time - Schedules are more like guidelines. Embrace the laid-back rhythm, slow down, and go with the flow, after all, you’re on island time now.
